  • Should have work experience in ICT at a professional level and should be relevant to the nominated job role (ANZSCO).
  • Work experience should be gathered properly before moving on to a skill assessment. The minimum standard of work experience has been stated by ACS clearly, which is highly essential to meet the required skill level. The date on which the minimum skill level is achieved will be granted as a skilled employee’s initiation point of migration.
  • It is very important to have a basic level of experience to be a skilled employee. The work experience before achieving the minimal standardized experience level will not be considered sufficient, which may negatively affect your RPL. Your RPL will be evaluated as improper for migration.
  • The format of writing the date has been standardized as DD/MM/YY format in case of preparation of the reference. In the reference letter, it is quintessential to mention your starting and ending dates to state your working experience. If you are currently employed, then please write “To date.” This will refer that the date of writing the reference letter is the maximum date of your experience.
  • Try to mention as many employment tasks as possible in the reference letter to respond better. However, the task should be relevant to your nominated job role. It has been standardized that 65% of your description of the employment task in your letter should be relevant to your nominated job role, and please try to provide a detailed description of them. I am mentioning this here as per the standardization of ANZSCO. In the other case, your RPL will be assessed as improper for immigration.
  • You should keep in mind that if you do some work with your qualification, then that experience should not be granted by the ANZSCO authority as “Skilled employment.” This experience will be evaluated as “Concurrent employment” in your RPL.
  • Must include specified information regarding your performance and skills shown by you in every reference. Your employer will approve this information. Keep in mind that, without proper information about your skill and performance level in your professional field, your RPL will not be up to the mark for immigration.
  • The employer’s signature in the “Employment reference letter” is one of the most important facts associated with the validity of the same. The signature of the employment authority or the employer signifies their approval of the mentioned information in the letter. Be conscious of mentioning the name, contact, reference, designation, and signing authority in the reference letter.
  • Please certify your reference letter. Any of the authorized notaries should do the certification. Lack of accreditation also leads to your RPL being improper for immigration, as the certified copy of your employment reference letter will be considered to assess your ACS skill.
  • Honesty is the best policy! Try to avoid any fraudulent means. Don’t copy the working experience and relevant attributes from any other resources. Mention your true work skill, performance level, and experience level in your reference letter.
  • Try to mention your skills and professional performances, more specifically, along with your nomination for the job role. The reference letter is about proving your professional competency in the evaluation process. Hence, try to focus more on your strong points and efficiency domain.

Who needs to submit the RPL project report and why?

Candidates without an ICT degree or with insufficient ICT training must submit an RPL project report to the Australian Computer Society (ACS) along with a letter of employment recommendation to demonstrate their competency following the ACS standard and receive a desirable score on the ACS Skills Assessment.

What is Employment Reference Letter in the ACS RPL report?

An employment reference letter is simply a recommendation letter showing your capability to perform particular tasks. 

It provides evidence of the candidate’s knowledge and work experience in the proposed employment field. It is regarded as qualified for an ACS RPL Application if it includes a detailed work history that spans at least seven years in the nominated occupation.

What can and cannot be included in the ACS Employment Reference Letter?

Every employment reference letter must include the following information, according to the ACS skill assessment guidelines:
Employment dates – mention start and end date in DD/MM/YY.
Your role and responsibilities – mention all duties and responsibilities you get during work.
Working hours – mention minimum working hours(20 hrs/week)
Country – mention country of employment.
Company letterhead with author’s signature – The employer or any authorized personnel should sign the reference letter. The person’s name, position, and contact information should be clearly stated.
Certification – The reference letter should be certified and thus demonstrate its validity.

There are a few things you should avoid including in your reference.
– Avoid generic details that do not express your duties and responsibilities.
– Activities that are unrelated to your chosen profession must be eliminated.
– You mustn’t include any fictitious information in the reference letter.
